Usually the real work happens away from the glamor of the glitzy world of high-finance and ventures. This chat room is one of those places. one that has bred so many entrepreneurs and technical minds.. that it changed the landscape of the tech world FOREVER! In the past few years, some of the most revolutionary software emerged not from Silicon Valley startups or high-powered universities, but from a humble online chat room. I first got to know of the success of Indian Diamond merchants in Antwerp from a cover page story in WSJ. IN a few years these guys had taken over 50% of the diamond trade from the Jews. Jews had 100% of the trade. This was a big success! These folks spend only on a few things. Marriage being one of them! This is Vijay Shah's temporary abode for his stay in the capital. The Antwerp-based diamond giant, chairman of the $400 million Vijaydimon Group, is in town to launch Signet, his company's first retail store. They've decided to set up shop in the bustling South Extension market, which also houses shops like Mango, Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste -- about the nearest thing to a branded high street that New Delhi has. Read more

The numbers of the dead is just too much... consistently through the last two decades.. first it was Khalistan .. then Kashmir.. and the Kashmir thing looks never ending. The figure is startling. Since 1994, over 50,000 have died in terrorist-related violence in India. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP), 23,955 terrorists, 19,662 civilians and 7,320 security force personnel have been killed in such incidents between 1994 and June, 2005. At present, Iraq scores higher on the daily violence scale. But then, Iraq may be considered to be in a different category: it’s a country at war. Read more

This is the "inside story" of what the members of cabinet have come to know about the recent Delhi blasts. Sherlock Holmes says to Dr. Watson in one of the stories: "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however impossible, has to be the truth!" Is a turnaround of Paki establishment EVEN POSSIBLE?? Only fools in India believe so! The Union Cabinet on Sunday held Pakistan-based and supported groups responsible for the worst-ever terrorist attack in the Capital, which can have a fallout on the peace process with the neighbour. Well-placed sources said that the Cabinet, after assessing the inputs from intelligence agencies, concluded that influential sections in the Pakistani establishment were behind the attack. Read more

Between Sangakarra and Dhoni - the two wicket keepers of both the sides scored > 50% of the runs!! 601 runs were scored in the match, out of which 321 were made by the two wicketkeepers, a rare occurrence in international cricket. Some of Dhoni's records in this ODI: - When he reached 50, Dhoni became first Indian wicketkeeper to score a fifty against Sri Lanka in India. Interestingly, he held the previous highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper against Sri Lanka in India with his 38 at Nagpur on October 25, 2005. - When he reached 100, he became first wicketkeeper to score two separate hundreds on Indian soil. By reaching three-figure mark, he also provided the first instance of wicketkeepers from the opposing sides scoring a hundred in the same match. Read more

This is crazy!! These guys just seemed so hard headed that emotions have no use whatsoever! A Paharganj paanwallah who saw and overheard a bomber, a bus passenger who interacted with the second terrorist and a list of around two crore mobile telephone calls. Forty-eight hours later, this is what the Special Cell of Delhi Police and intelligence agencies are banking on to nab the perpetrators of the worst terrorist attack in the Capital. Portraits of two bombers would be out any time now. ‘‘Aage kafi rush hai, mein utar jata hun...tum rickshaw ko us chat wale ke paas lekar pahuncho (It’s very crowded ahead, I’ll just get off and walk, you take the rickshaw till that chat stall,’’ is what a paanwallah—who is with Delhi Police since then—heard the terrorist tell 35-year-old Sadanand Paswan, the rickshaw-puller. He then got off, leaving his bag behind. Barely 10 metres from the paan stall and five minutes later, the bomb went off in the rickshaw killing Paswan and 15 others. Based on the paanwallah’s description, Delhi police would soon put out their first portrait of the bomber, highly-placed sources say. Read more

The message is "KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID!" Though copy editors and popular writers have known it for long, an experiment by a psychologist establishes the key to impressive writing - keep it plain and simple. Writers who use long words needlessly and choose complicated font styles in print are seen as less intelligent than those who employ basic vocabulary and plain text, according to new research from the Princeton University in New Jersey to be published in the next edition of Applied Cognitive Psychology. In the study titled 'Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly', Daniel Oppenheimer based his findings on students' responses to writing samples for which the complexity of the font or vocabulary was systematically manipulated. Read more

The Terrorists have LOST!! No matter what they do... the spirit cannot be touched. Way to go! And it didn't take a demo or pestering from the Prime Minister to have the common man understand this! The sound of firecrackers greeted the dawn in Delhi today as the city began the Hindu festival of Diwali in the wake of bomb attacks at the weekend that killed 59 people. Defiant shopkeepers decorated their stalls with glowing lights and shiny tinsel to mark the festival of lights - representing the triumph of good over evil - but security was tight as investigators continued their hunt for the bombers. Police sifted through millions of mobile telephone call records, trying to uncover who had carried out the attacks, and checkpoints were set up around the city. ... read more Read more
