Last night we slept in a closed area so nothing would hurt us... as the night went on.. we slept - just before the landfall of Rita. Well... the night went off without any incident or even any indication! But it was a sigh of relief! The direction of the Hurricane actually had been North West.. but then sudddenly a few miles before landfall it had changed the direction to North... and that straightened it... and again when it hit the land it turned North west back again! Had it not changed its direction to North instead of the original and as later North west... Houston and us in Katy would have been in trouble! Read more

News Source: Houston Chronicle News Highlight: Hoping to avoid a repeat of the highway gridlock and fuel shortages that frustrated and stranded Houston residents fleeing from Hurricane Rita, Texas' governor is calling for evacuees to stay put while authorities come up with a plan to stagger their return. Rick Perry said this morning. "Hopefully as soon as this afternoon we'll be able to share with people how to get into their homes and neighborhoods.'' News Source: Indian Express News Highlight: The Asian intelligence successes of which the Centre [HQ of the First Chief Directorate or FCD, the KGB’s foreign intelligence wing] was most proud were in India, the world’s second most populous state and largest democracy. It was deeply ironic that the KGB should find democratic India so much more congenial an environment than Communist China, North Korea and Vietnam. Oleg Kalugin, who in 1973 became the youngest general in the FCD, remembers India as both a prestige target and ‘‘a model of KGB infiltration of a third world government’’. The openness of India’s democracy combined with the streak of corruption which ran through its media and political system provided numerous opportunities for Soviet intelligence.
