As is obvious for my posts on the blog, I have a high regard for Arvind Kejriwal as well as Narendra Modi.  I believe both are important for the country.  But Kejriwal now comes up with something that has left me flummoxed. Arvind Kejriwal today unleashed his ammunition against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and accused Modi and Congress to be partners in business, with common friends in the industry. While, he admitted that he got much of his evidence... Read more

The Muslim dominated Sundarbari panchayat under Kochadhaman block in Kishanganj district of Bihar has put a strange set of restrictions on women.  Apparently, the villagers aren’t secure with their women using the mobiles. If an unmarried girl uses mobile, she will have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.  A married lady, on the other hand, has been spared the fine ONLY if she uses the cell phone within the home.  If she is caught using a mobile outside her... Read more

Great news for India‘s cell phone users – roaming nationwide will be eliminated.  It is about time it was eliminated.  India seems to be the only country which has such a stupid tariff WITHIN the country! After announcing plans to abolish roaming charges for mobile users when traveling within India from next year, the telecom department is likely to ask operators to implement this consumer-friendly move from March.  Mobile phone companies have opposed the government’s plans to do away with... Read more

India Today‘s sex survey has brought out some bizarre facts about small towns in India.  The concept of small towns and villages as “simple and innocent” is probably just a romantic idea after all.  Here are some interesting points: Aizawl has the highest percentage of individuals who nominate their boyfriends/girlfriends as the first sexual partner. It also reports the highest percentage of live-in relationships, as well as those with multiple sexual partners. 58% of respondents in Kota detach emotions from... Read more

Sadly that is the truth of the Bengal of today, where Mamata Bannerjee – the first person to have broken the stranglehold of the Communists – has brought the state to. Aamra ekhon-o boli ni kon kagoj porte hobe, kintu agami dine kintu setao bole debo. (Till now, we haven’t told which newspapers must be read, but in the future, we will do that as well.) – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, speaking on March 29 in defense of her... Read more

JC Kendall makes an interesting point in his article on the impact of Social Media on sales of the businesses.  He says the impact is negligible. On this recent 2012 Black Friday, Online Sales grew 20.7% from last year.  Online Sales on Cyber Monday grew by 30.3%.  Those numbers represents HUGE growth in the Online space.  Within those numbers however, Social Media overall was responsible for 0.34% of Online sales on Black Friday.  Allow me rephrase this in case your... Read more

While the Indian couple sits in jail and they work their way out of the mess due to difference in cultural norms, Norwegian princess was in India unannounced for a strange errand. Same sex marriage has been legalized in Norway since 2009, while same sex partnerships were registered since 1993.  However, paying surrogate parents for producing kids is a sensitive topic. The Princess Mette-Marit was in a quandry.  One of her staffer – also her friend – and his husband... Read more

The polar ice in the Arctic is at an all-time low.  We have a 3rd or 4th – In Summer there is generally about the size of the United States (lower 48 states). Have lost a volume equal to half of United States in terms of summer ice cover!  We may come to a point in our lifetimes when Arctic may not even have ice in summers – in this decade or next one at the latest!  Not just that... Read more

Problems of a big nature are brewing in our neighborhood.  Maldives is on a collision course with India – because it believes that Chinese are there to look after their back.  And, as I see it, India is playing right into the Chinese hands! Recently, Maldivian President’s spokesperson Adil Riza called India’s top Diplomat to Maldives DM Mulay as a “traitor” and an “enemy” of the country.  Also the GMR airport contract was cancelled recently in Maldives.  This has brought... Read more
