Rajeev Malhotra’s work on Indic civilization is unique and without parallel.  He has written two books – Breaking India and Being Different.  And in the latter specifically, he discusses how Indian civilization can challenge the Western Univeralism – which rode on the back of Colonial aggression and stuffed on the colonized.  For India, the Indian Historians just took those prejudiced and jaundiced views and have taken on the task of deconstructing the Indian work in Science and philosophy. The digital world has taken over our lives.  So much so that we can’t escape being constantly connected 100%. We text, we tweet, we carry cell phones like they’re life lines. We check our e-mails, our Facebook pages, our online status six different ways.  And then we start again.  We’ve known for a while now that the digital world – great as it is – could be addictive.  Overwhelming.  An obsession.  A leash.  A prison. Some people are born great.  Some achieve greatness.  Some have greatness THRUST upon them. We are all alone.  And we cannot handle that.  When I see the world around me, I find the toughest issue with people is not material well being, but handling themselves.  Those who haven’t been successful and are pursuing success somehow have a divergence.  They know that they have to get somewhere, and moreover in the beginning of the careers, you have lots of people around you.  You have energy and want to get somewhere.  A higher ideal awaits. Forgetting... Read more

There are a lot of nuts in the world out there, but this guy certainly takes the cake! He is Nestlé Chairman Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, who while interviewing for a documentary called  We Feed the World says “water isn’t a human right”. (Hat tip: Puneet K.) Doesn’t stop there… goes on further to become even more outrageous! He attacks the idea that nature is good, and says it is a great achievement that humans are now able to resist nature’s dominance.... Read more

Publishing in India is undergoing a lot of change.  Of all the publications, Femina has made an interesting foray into “CrowdSourcing”.  It’s first Crowdsourced issues has hit the stands as we speak.  The content has been completely contributed by the readers themselves. Their credo was – If you have got a story, we have got the space. There was a time when Femina was at the forefront of Women’s magazines… and then reading Femina became an anti-Feminist activity.  Now, by... Read more
