Micah Parsons Atop Sports Headlines

From Dallas to Green Bay

Micah Parsons is a name National Football League (NFL) fans know well. One reason is the fierce nature in which he plays football, making him one of the most thrilling players to watch.

Along with his thrilling playing style, sports fans also know Micah Parsons for being atop sports headlines throughout the summer. The headlines stem from contract disputes with his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.

After being traded to the Green Bay Packers on August 28, 2025, Micah is set to begin a new chapter in his career.

Knowing this, let’s highlight Micah’s background, journey to the NFL, and his impact with the Cowboys. Then we’ll examine what led to the trade and how trusting God can help Micah excel in Green Bay.

Micah Parsons Early Life

Considering Abortion?

Micah Aaron Parsons was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on May 26, 1999. He is Terrance and Sherese Parsons youngest child.

Sherese refers to Micah as a child of destiny and often says God has his hands on him. Sherese acknowledges God’s hand in Micah’s life because she almost made a life-altering decision that would have affected his existence.

As a young mother, she admits to considering abortion, unsure she could handle raising three children. Thankfully, God uses a woman named Sister Hall as a source of wise counsel who encourages her to give life to her child.

Sherese’s experience highlights the fact that raising a child can seem like a daunting task. However, this daunting task can turn out to be their biggest blessing.

Sherese’s testimony also proves God knows and cares about children even in their mother’s womb.

A Strong Support System

Along with Micah, Sherese and Terrance have two older children, Terrance Jr. and Shatara. Micah’s siblings are a significant part of his support system.

Earlier this year, Shatara (who played college basketball at California University of Pennsylvania) hosted a basketball camp alongside Micah’s football camp. Terrance Jr. often expresses support for his younger brother on social media.

However, like any big brother, Terrance Jr. isn’t afraid to disagree with some of Micah’s decisions. This shows that Terrance Jr. knows how to be a friend who loves at all times and a brother in adversity when warranted.

Micah’s mother worked for United Concordia Dental for 25 years while raising three children. He praises his mother for the labor and sacrifices she’s made to ensure their family receives the best possible care.

Terrance Parsons Sr. served as a military officer and a non-profit owner supporting the youth. Micah credits his father for introducing him to sports and coaching his youth football team.

A Football Star is Born

Micah Parsons High School Stats

Terrance Sr.’s influence paved the way for Micah to play high school football. Interestingly, Micah also played basketball in high school.

However, the football field became the place where spectators would realize a star is in their midst. During this time, Micah played for Central Dauphin for two years before transferring to Harrisburg High School.

Offensively, he played running back where do 36 games he acquired the following totals

  • 1,256 rushing yards.
  • 111 carries.
  • 27 touchdowns.
  • 13 receptions for 99 yards.
  • 2 receiving touchdowns.
  • 1 Punt Return Touchdown.

Defensively, he played linebacker, earning

  • 245 total tackles.
  • 64.5 tackles for loss.
  • 41.5 sacks (1.2 per game).
  • 5 forced fumbles (recovering 4).
  • 3 defensive touchdowns.
  • 2 interceptions.

Micah’s outstanding play earned him a plethora of awards, including

  • Being a Harrisburg High School Team MVP.
  • Being named Harrisburg High School Team Captain in his senior season.
  • Getting selected to the U.S. Army Bowl
  • Helping Harrisburg win the 2017 Mid-Penn Commonwealth Title.
  • Ranking as a 5 Star recruit via ESPN, Rivals, and 247 Sports.

Another Prominent #11

Ranking as a 5 Star recruit allowed Micah to attend Pennsylvania State University (Penn State).

Along with being a scholarship recipient, Mich was also motivated to play for Penn State because, in May of 2018, his son Malcolm was born.

As a Nitty Lions Linebacker, Micah wore #11, upholding the prominent status ascribed to this jersey. In twenty-six games through two seasons with the Nitty Lions, Micah accomplished the following stats

  • 192 total tackles.
  • 19 tackles for loss.
  • 6.5 sacks.
  • 6 forced fumbles.
  • 5 passes defended.

 Controversy, Celebration, and Contention

Speak it into Existence?

Despite having a solid career at Penn State, controversy caused Micah’s draft stock to fall in 2021.

For starters, he missed the 2020 season due to concerns about Malcolm’s health amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The loving sacrifice of a father caused Micah a season’s worth of competition that could have further impressed NFL scouts.

Unfortunately, a loving sacrifice isn’t the only reason Micah’s draft stock fell. He was rumored to be involved in a Penn State hazing incident.

While the rumour may have hurt Micah’s draft position, he’s confident it enabled God’s plan to manifest. Micah believes he spoke his NFL destination into existence while attending a game at AT&T Stadium.

In a social media post, he declared he’d play for the Dallas Cowboys. Some theologians suggest this is a strong display of faith that aligns with Job 22:28.

Job 22:28  says, “decree a thing and it shall be established and the light shall shine on thy ways.”

Micah Parsons Shining for “America’s Team”

For Micah, the light began to shine when he was drafted 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Overjoyed by God’s plans and hopes of winning a Super Bowl, in 63 games with Dallas, he   accomplished the following

  • 256  total tackles.
  • 52.5 sacks.
  • 9 pass deflections.
  • 9 forced fumbles (recovering 4).

These stats have helped Micah become a

  • 4x Pro Bowler.
  • 2x All-Pro.
  • 2021 PFWA Defensive Rookie of the Year.
  • 2021 PFWA Rookie of the Year.
  • Dallas Cowboys rookie leader in hurries (42).
  • Dallas Cowboys rookie leader in tackles for a loss (12)
  • NFL Rookie leader in sacks (13).

Along with a great on-field performance, Micah has done good work in the community. In 2024, he followed his father’s example by starting the Lion Heart Foundation. This non-profit strives to assist community leaders through camps, giveaways, and book and toy drives.

Toys were another source of joy for Micah a year earlier, becoming he father of a beautiful baby girl named Milana in January 2023.

Seasons Change

While Micah had great times in Texas, summer 2025 forced him to face the reality that seasons change. This chapter in Micah’s career came to an end after a dramatic contract dispute with Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones.

Tension over Micah’s worth led him to write a letter to the team expressing that he no longer desired to play for Dallas. Jerry Jones obliged, sending Micah to the Packers for Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks (2026 and 2027).

A Blessing in Disguise

Micah Parsons Moving Forward with Faith

Being traded to the Packers will help Micah regain focus in pursuit of winning a Super Bowl. He also receives a four-year $188 million contract with $120 million guaranteed

The new contract makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The deal also allowed him to honor his mother by retiring her from United Concordia Dental on August 28, 2025.

Additionally, relocating gives Micah a fresh start where he can mature in his faith. This is important since he has admitted to being addicted to reading the Bible. Therefore, Micah can grow spiritually by continuing to study scripture daily.

Likewise, maintaining consistent accountability sessions with his mentor and engaging with other believers will challenge him to apply what he reads.

In addition to consistent mentorship, Micah can also fellowship with other Packers who are Christians. He can use his favorite game, Scrabble, or his current favorite artist Rod Wave, as bonding points.

I also advise Micah to study individuals like Moses, Nehemiah, Jesus, Paul, and Peter. Doing so will help him analyze their strengths and weaknesses to enhance his leadership skills.

This is due to critics questioning Micah’s leadership skills because he’s used public platforms to discuss team issues that should be addressed privately.

Lastly, Micah can remain grounded in his faith by continuing to glorify God, win or lose. I can’t wait to see how the Lord uses Micah during this next phase in his career.

Prayers and well wishes to the newest Green Bay Packers DE!
