Today the Church celebrates the life of St. Mark. He’s known as John Mark and tradition tells us that he was the author of the Gospel after his name. He was the companion of both Paul and Peter. We also learn from tradition that he founded the Church in Alexandria Egypt. His mother was named Mary and it is thought that their home was the place of the “upper room” where the Last Supper took place and where the disciples gathered in the early days of the Church. Mark is believed to have been martyred in Egypt.
Here’s the prayer for in commemoration of his legacy.
Almighty God, by the hand of Mark the evangelist you have given to your Church the Gospel of Jesus Messiah the Son of God: I thank you for this witness, and pray that I may be firmly grounded in its truth; through Jesus Messiah our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
