I’m continuing my paraphrase of Romans, here is the latest part on Rom 5.1-11:
Therefore, since we’ve are declared to be righteous by faith, let us have peace with God through the peace-making work of the Lord Jesus the Messiah. Through him we have acquired a backstage pass by this faith into God’s lavish grace, a grace in which we can stand and brag about the hope of the glorious splendour of God.
Not only that, but because of this grace we can even brag about God’s glory in the midst of affliction, knowing that affliction produces a strong backbone, a strong backbone produces authenticity, authenticity produces hope, and hope does not make us shy away in shame, because God’s love has been poured into hour hearts like rain from the sky, all this is through the Holy Spirit who has been wonderfully given to us.
You see, at exactly the right moment, when we were completely powerless to save ourselves, the Messiah gave his life for the irreligious. I suppose on a good day some might conceivably give their life to save a good person, but even that would be rarer than hen’s teeth. And yet God demonstrates the depths and determination of his love for us, because it was while we were maxed out in evil ways that the Messiah gave his life for us.
Since we have been declared to be right with God by the shedding of Jesus’ blood, how much more than can we expect to be delivered from God’s righteous anger at our evil by this same Jesus. For if we were reconciled to God even while we were his nemesis through the death of his son, then having been reconciled, how much more can we expect that we will definitely be saved by the risen life of his son. Not only that, but we brag about God through our Lord Jesus the Messiah, through whom we have been given this wonderful experience of reconciliation.
