About the Blog

Community, cosmopolitanism and co-existence. “Communion”, in both political theory and theology, names a special place of sharing, relationship, partnership, or fellowship that goes beyond mere integration or cooperation. But to what extent has the ideal of a “communion” beyond “union” taken root in the Europe of today? To what extent do Catholics and people of other religions help or hinder the realization of such eternal “European” ideals as freedom, equality, plurality, democracy, reason, and responsibility? Our brief for this blog is to bring these questions and others to bear on our coverage and analysis of key stories in religion news and current affairs on the continent, all with the aim of stimulating informed public discourse and reasoned civic debate.
