Don’t you wish there was a way to figure out what’s true and what isn’t? As in–is it true that people are basically good, or are we actually sinners in disguise? Or–is it true that we should scrimp and save so that we have enough money for retirement? Or maybe we should live for today and buy whatever we want. How do we decide what is true?
I believe that it’s all true. Uh-huh. Here’s what I mean:
Imagine life is a span of levels of consciousness, from the most dense to the most expanded. And then imagine that every thought we have, every emotion, every word we use or story we speak can then be calibrated according to its level of consciousness. (See David Hawkins‘ wonderful book, Power vs. Force, for the full explanation of this idea.)
Hawkins would say that we go “weak” in the presence of what is “negative” (the negativity only being a reflection of losing personal energy) and strong in the presence of the positive. In other words, our tissues weaken when we’re feeling sad or guilty or lying. And they strengthen when we’re in appreciation and love and integrity.
These days, I’m very interested in creating my life from as expanded a state as I can. I watch my thoughts and my words (two of the few things I actually have control over) and choose those that feel expanded and powerful. I’m actively avoiding thinking and speaking what feels dense and weakening. That doesn’t mean I don’t get to feel what I’m feeling (if you know me at all, you’ve heard me say my mantra of “anyone gets to feel anything anytime for any reason). My body still gets activated because of thoughts like “that guy looks dangerous” or “that isn’t fair” or “that bus is coming awfully fast.” I know my Reactive Brain is alive and at the ready.
In other words, I believe I get to choose what “truth” I want to live into. My old story about money, that people have to work hard for it (and “good” people stand out because they’re so exhausted) is clearly calibrated at the level of Fear. That’s way dense and very weakening. So I’m cultivating a new story, one from the powerful level of Appreciation: that I am fully supported in all ways by an abundant and friendly universe. That’s what I’m thinking about, that’s what I’m talking and writing about. And my life is reflecting this new story.
This is a whole new exploration for me. If you’re interested in trying out some new, expanded stories from which to live, please keep me posted about how your life changes.
