David Wilkerson Dies | Teen Challenge Founder April 28, 2011

David WilkersonSome of you may be familiar with David Wilkerson, the author of the book The Cross and The Switchblade and pastor of the Times Square Church in New York.  He tragically died in a car accident Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Texas.

One of Wilkerson’s greatest ministries was Teen Challenge – a christian organization that reaches out to drug addicts, alcoholics, gang members and prostitutes.  Thousands have been impacted by the ministry of Teen Challenge and David’s passion for reaching those who were struggling with addictions of all sorts.

Up to the time of his death, David was faithful in writing devotionals online and this is an excerpt from his last post on Wednesday:

“To those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: Weeping will last through some dark, awful nights—and in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, “I am with you. I cannot tell you why right now, but one day it will all make sense. You will see it was all part of my plan. It was no accident. It was no failure on your part. Hold fast. Let me embrace you in your hour of pain.”

Beloved, God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. When all means fail—his love prevails. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his Word. There is no other hope in this world.” – David Wilkerson

Brother Dave was a tremendous example to so many and his impact in New York City and throughout the world will be remembered for many years to come.
