You’re Never Too Old for a New Adventure

You’re Never Too Old for a New Adventure

This month, as I celebrate turning 69, my life looks nothing like I imagined it would just a few short years ago.

I’m getting married.
I’m moving to a new area.
I’m starting a new job at a new law firm.

All at once.

To say I’m experiencing a big change would be an understatement.
Some days I wake up feeling energized and ready. Other days, the “what ifs” creep in and try to rob my peace. I’m a little nervous, a little terrified… but mostly, I’m tremendously excited.

Because here’s what I’ve learned in this season:

Age Is Not a Stop Sign

Somewhere along the way, culture whispers that by our 60s or 70s, we should be slowing down, settling in, and sticking to what we know.
But faith — and life — often have other plans.

Abraham left everything familiar and followed God at 75.
Moses didn’t lead until he was 80.
Anna the prophet was well advanced in years when she saw the promise of Christ fulfilled.

God doesn’t retire His people. He redirects them.

New adventures are not only for the young. They are for the willing.

Growth Is Still Possible

Yes, stepping into new seasons can be scary.

New jobs mean learning curves.
New homes mean unfamiliar routines.
New marriages mean navigating relationships at a deeper level — and often with more wisdom.

But new experiences also mean fresh opportunities to:

  • Discover hidden strengths

  • Meet new people

  • Trust God more fully

  • Add depth and richness to your story

Every new adventure stretches us in ways we may not even realize until we look back later.

Faith Anchors Us Through the Unknown

As I navigate these changes, I find myself leaning hard into familiar Scriptures:

See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; (Proverbs 3:5)

New things may feel unsettling at first, but they often reveal how trustworthy God truly is.
He does not call us into new seasons to abandon us — He walks with us into every unknown.

Choose Courage Over Comfort

If you’re reading this and wondering if you’re too old for change or new adventures — let me gently challenge you:

You are not done.
You are not past your prime.
You are not stuck unless you choose to be.

Saying yes to new things keeps us vibrant, engaged, and hopeful.

Will it always be easy? No.
Will it always be worth it? Almost always yes.

A Final Word

At 69, I could choose to say, “This is too much. Too risky. Too late.”

Instead, I am choosing to say:

“This is a gift. This is a new chapter. This is an invitation.”

If change is knocking on your door — even if it feels overwhelming — remember, you’re never too old for a new adventure.

In fact, some of the best ones may still be ahead.

Have you faced a new adventure later in life? I’d love to hear your story in the comments. Let’s encourage each other to embrace what’s next — with faithful resilience and joy. Let’s chat HERE.
