Faith Goes Pop
Singer Fantasia Barrino, best known for winning the third season of American Idol, has welcomed a son named Dallas Xavier Barrino. Her pregnancy has not been without scandal-Fantasia’s boyfriend, Antwaun Cook, was married when they met and Fantasia was named in the divorce papers. (Fun fact: North Carolina, where Fantasia and I are both from, is one of the few remaining states where someone can be sued for “alienation of affection.”) The pregnancy also reportedly put a halt to a biopic of gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, which Fantasia was slated to star in. It’s not clear whether the film will happen or not.
In August, when Fantasia confirmed her pregnancy, she told a crowd at a concert, “So, this child that I carry – God has given me this child. And I don’t have to hide it from none of y’all.” In today’s press release, she said, “I feel so blessed that my son Dallas Xavier was born healthy, and is a wonderful new addition to our family.”
Fantasia is already the mother of one daughter, Zion, now 10. That happens to be the name of singer Lauryn Hill‘s son, and he inspired this song:
