Why did Americans Elect Mr. Potter? December 22, 2024

If Americans want to live in Bedford Falls, why did they elect Mr. Potter, who promises misery, bigotry, and theft?

Why did Americans Elect Mr. Potter?

Most of us live in Bedford Falls, where our lives are filled with hard working and goodhearted people. We’re friendly and affable and we look out for others. Immigrants like Mr. Martini have opportunities to work hard and join our community. The elderly, the poor, and those down on their luck get help to make their lives better.

When people are afraid and the economy crashes — when there’s a run on the bank and the savings and loan, we don’t exploit fears, we seek to calm the situation, and do what’s best for everyone. We sing songs and wish each other Merry Christmas.

In Bedford Falls, U.S.A, we’re all in this together.

But not everyone is happy in Bedford Falls.

An angry, bitter billionaire is alone on Christmas Eve.

The culmination of a lifetime devoted to greed and selfishness, he has no reason to be angry and yet anger is all he has. Mr. Potter exploits and looks down on regular, working people.

Let me make it plain: Donald Trump is Mr. Potter, befouling everything he touches, resentment coursing through his cold heart like poison.

The 1947 film classic “It’s a Wonderful Life” presents an idyllic picture of life in Bedford Falls, and the majority of voting Americans chose the slum of Pottersville, overrun with corruption and crime and ruled over by a scurvy spider spinning webs of deceit.

Half of American Christians voted for a thrice married, convicted felon who stole from charity and bankrupted a casino.

Moral decay in the United States has elected the most immoral president in history. Twice.

The U.S. and American Christians have lost their moral compass.

Jesus told us to love God and to love others. So simple, and yet American Christians can’t do it.

They can’t love God if they don’t love those made in the image of God, and they don’t love others when they support policies that hurt the weakest and most vulnerable.

The U.S. is entering a dark time and in desperate need of God. Americans need to do what Jesus tells us to do: Love God. Love others.

For the love of God, with the love of God, American Christians will realize they’ve handed over Bedford Falls to a government filled with Mr. Potters.
