It appears ICE is coming to my city.
The authoritarian Trump Administration is systematically invading states and cities with Democratic leadership and I believe the attack against Richmond, Va. is imminent.
Democrats hold the offices of Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General, the General Assembly, both Senate seats and most of the Congressional seats.
The first state in the nation to elect a Black governor swore in its first female governor in January.
Gov. Abigail Spanberger immediately reversed the Trump-supporting policies of her Republican predecessor, Gov. Glen Youngkin — a Trump sycophant who campaigned as a moderate and immediately reversed course after barely defeating his Democratic rival.
And so Trump’s administration is turning it’s monstrous gaze south.
According to Virginia Public Media:
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is looking to purchase a warehouse in Hanover County for use as a potential processing facility, according to a letter addressed to Planning Director Jo Ann Hunter.
Hanover officials announced Thursday that they received a communication from the federal Department of Homeland Security expressing interest in the 43-acre property at 11525 Lakeridge Pkwy., south of Interstate 95.
The 552,587-square-foot building in Ashland, known as the Lewistown 95 Logistics Center, is owned by Jim Pattison Developments. The Canada-based developer previously advertised the warehouse as a potential office and distribution center.
ICE is looking for a base from which to launch attacks across Virginia.
When I signed up to speak at the board of supervisors meeting I was number 12.
Ultimately more than 1,000 attended the meeting and speakers were limited to county residents.
The Board opening the meeting stating the county’s opposition to the purchase because the land wasn’t zoned for human warehouses.
Unfortunately the Federal government isn’t bound by local zoning ordinances.

Here’s the statement I would have read, if given the opportunity.

Last spring, I worked across the street at Hanover Tavern, which has stood at the crossroads of history.
I come today to speak of history. Hanover’s history. Virginia’s history.
Our history and our commitment to freedom and liberty.
Hanover was at the crossroads of freedom and liberty when our forefathers opposed a British attack in June, 1781.
Virginians opposed Federal aggression here in Hanover in May, 1862.
Once again, Federal aggressors are coming to Virginia.
With our own eyes, we see undisciplined, masked Federal agents infringe on basic civil rights and freedoms across the country.
D.C. Los Angeles. Chicago. Charlotte. Minneapolis.
Masked, Federal agents violating basic civil rights, basic Constitutional rights.
The right to move freely. The right to freely assemble. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
ICE wants to come to Hanover. Will you open the door and invite in their lawlessness?
Do we want that here, in Virginia? In Hanover?
Do we want heavily armed bands of federal agents at Train Day? Chasing people down the streets on Independence Day? Or during the strawberry festival?
ICE was doing just fine, without our tax dollars being wasted on massive, illegal warehouses. President Obama deported more than 3 million people, far more than President Trump.
And he did it legally — no masked men going to public schools and day care centers. No one being assaulted, sprayed with chemicals, or shot multiple times for just peacefully walking down the street with a camera in their hands.
“Are fleets and armies necessary to a work of love and reconciliation?” Our own Patrick Henry asked. “Let us not deceive ourselves,” he said. “These are the implements of war and subjugation; the last arguments to which kings resort.
“The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! . . . What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

Jim Pattison Developments said the sale of an industrial building, which was planned to become an Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing facility, would not go forward.
