I’m not married. Most of you know that already. My “husband” and I have been living in common law sin for over a decade now. Marriage has never been a big deal to us. Though we do intend on tying the knot at some point just to make sure all our legal ducks are in a row, for now, we’re just godless fornicators raising lovely bastards. Though neither of us sees much sense in overspending for one night of catered… Read more

Believe it or not, I never used to wear makeup. It wasn’t until I discovered YouTube makeup gurus that I ever even really attempted to wear it. That puts me somewhere in my thirties when I first tried, sloppily, to apply makeup properly without someone doing it for me. But once I did, I was hooked like your gran is to bingo. It’s not that I felt I looked better or that it boosted my self-image because I care about… Read more

In this series debunking the reasons to support the death penalty, we’ve looked at: Part 1: Redemption Part 2: Deterrence Part 3: Cost Part 4: Humane killing? Part 5: Closure We know that the death penalty is ineffective as a deterrent. We know that capital punishment costs significantly more than life in prison, drawing funds from law enforcement and victims services. We know that there is no way to humanely kill a person who does not want to die. We… Read more

So, here’s a meme: It was the first thing I saw when I logged onto Facebook this morning. This photo, it’s worth noting, was taken by a man who won the Pulitzer prize for it but who later committed suicide. The child, whose name was Nyong, is now dead. This horrific picture is expressing similar ideas to what many people have been sharing in the wake of the fire at Notre Dame. Said people are taking the time to show… Read more

It leaves you a little breathless when you lean over the edge of the cenote sagrado at Chichen Itza and consider how many human bones are collected beneath the water. There’s a large slab of rock where people, sometimes children, would be slaughtered and tossed into the dark waters of the sinkhole in order to please Chaac, the Mayan god of rain. I’ve been there twice and both times, I found I’d forgotten to breathe. The pyramids at Chichen Itza… Read more

One of my guilty pleasures is Big Brother. Alongside Survivor, Big Brother satisfies some deep dark corner of my psyche that voraciously craves strategy. I loved chess growing up and now I can’t live without marathons of Settlers of Catan. If you watched my brain on an MRI, the very same areas that light up when I plan my attack against a dungeon boss playing Zelda would light up when I’m watching a discussion between two human chess pieces locked… Read more

When I worked at the Vancouver International Airport as an aircraft groomer, I had this coworker, Jarnail. I would often end up on overnight deep grooms with Jarnail as the two of us were among the youngest on staff and could handle a night shift. I would even get off work and go straight to class after. If I attempted that now, I’m almost certain I’d end up hospitalized, but I digress. I worked with Jarnail often, just the two… Read more

Alright hetero boys, if you are at all uncomfortable with your sexuality, now’s the time to check out because Mama’s gonna praise the gods of rock-hard man-abs in just a few. Consider this your trigger warning. I wrote about this a long time ago, but I thought I would put it in a more accessible and easily consumed video because I feel the message is so important. How do we know if we understand “science” properly? How do we eliminate our own personal bias when it comes to learning new things? How can we tell if what we’re reading is true or not? What makes something a fact? These topics and more are covered in this… Read more
