Here’s a couple of worrisome items you might want to check out:
‘Trump’s latest rally rant is much more alarming and dangerous than usual’
In his “Plum Line” column in the Washington Post opinion pages August 31, Greg Sargent sounded an alarm about the implications of President Trump’s diatribe one night earlier at a rally in Indiana.
The president told the Hoosier audience:
“Today’s Democrat Party is held hostage by left-wing haters, angry mobs, deep-state radicals, establishment cronies and their fake-news allies,” Trump railed. “Our biggest obstacle and their greatest ally actually is the media.”
It was his standard conspiracy-theory rant against everything establishment, but it was spewed in a new context the day after a man named Robert D. Chain was, Sargent wrote,
Sargent said the president “surely knew about” Chain’s arrest, which made him complicit. This is a strange way for a president to act who is charged with protecting all Americans, is it not?
“arrested … for allegedly threatening to murder journalists at the Boston Globe while mimicking Trump’s language, also connected Mueller’s investigation to the media. ‘You’re the enemy of the people, and we’re going to kill every f–––ing one of you,’ Chain snarled into one employee’s voicemail, according to FBI documents. ‘Why don’t you call Mueller, maybe he can help you out.’”
‘If G.O.P. Loses Hold on Congress, Trump Warns, Democrats Will Enact Change “Quickly and Violently”’
This August 28 article in The New York Times reports another act of presidential irresponsibility, as President Trump tried to scare evangelical leaders at a closed-door White House meeting. According to people who attended, Trump issued dire warnings of “violence” ؙ— saying the word three times in rapid succession — if Republicans should lose control of Congress in the mid-term elections.
“I just ask you to go out and make sure all of your people vote,” Mr. Trump said. “Because if they don’t — it’s Nov. 6 — if they don’t vote we’re going to have a miserable two years and we’re going to have, frankly, a very hard period of time because then it just gets to be one election — you’re one election away from losing everything you’ve got.”
But what hung in the air after the meeting was the word “violence.”
He doesn’t seem to be trying to minimize its potential with his statements.
