Mrs Robin adds to her nest – three more eggs! 2014-05-04T17:09:35-04:00

Mrs. Robin has made a few additions to her nest.

Hopefully you’re not sick of my updates about Mrs. Robin and her nest. But watching her overcome the obstacles to build the nest, and the fact that darling husband had to give her a helping hand, have bonded me to this bird and her baby egg.

So imagine my surprise today when I went into the garage attic to peek on her and found … three more eggs! The last two days Mrs. Robin has been fending off some attacks from a blue jay and crow. She’s a feisty bird – and now I know why. Her family is about to grow even bigger than we’d thought.

According to BirdWatchersDigest.com, “Robins incubate their eggs for 12 to 14 days. Once hatched, the nestlings remain in the nest for another 14 to 16 days before fledging.” I noticed the first egg in the nest on May 1 but the nest was done on about April 26. That means that there could be babies hatching from those eggs in a week or so. I can’t wait! Stay tuned…
