Thank you pro-lifers who convinced so many Christians that the only choice they had for president was Donald Trump. You keep demonstrating how you are anything but pro-life when you turn away and ignore all the evil which is done by those who claim to be pro-life.
It is as if a few choice words and the use of a label for oneself is all that matters to you.
Being pro-life is not a label, it is about an ethos. It is concern for all, including, but not limited to, children, the elderly, the poor, and the oppressed. Indeed, pro-life people should feel the call to work for and help anyone who finds their human dignity being denigrated or removed by those in positions of power. The Gospel of Life is an ethos about human dignity. If you think you can disregard anyone’s dignity at any stage of life, if you think you can abandon the dignity of any person, you are not pro-life.
Now, I’ve heard Trump’s choice for Secretary of Education is Betsy DeVos. I’m hearing some “pro-life” fans of Trump celebrating her as a “pro-life choice.”
Say what?
Can you be even more obvious that you don’t care about human dignity?
“I know a little something about soft money, as my family is the single largest contributor of soft money to the Republican National Party. I have decided, however, to stop taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence. Now I simply concede the point. They are right. We do expect something in return. (Source)
There are questions and indications that she helped her brother, Erik Prince*, get governmental contracts for his company, Blackwater (yes, that disgraced contracting firm which has done considerable harm in Iraq). Her husband, Dick DeVos, a source, but not the only source, of her wealth is the heir of the AMWAY fortune (a “legalized pyramid scheme”).
Oh, by the way, she has no experience teaching. She has no experience in education. Her experience is lobbying for charter schools, that is, working for the privatization of the education system.
So not only did you help bring in a President who will and has said anything to “make the deal,” but also a president who is not “draining the swamp” but bringing in the people to make it bigger. What do you think he is going to do with it then?
Catholics who follow the real Gospel of Life cannot let this mockery continue. We must oppose Trump in every and all actions of his which indicates his selling out of the American people, let alone the pro-life name.
*If you are curious what Erik Prince has been doing of late, just click this google search result and tell me about Trump’s so-called disassociation with the “alt-right”.
