At what cost?

At what cost? August 21, 2019

This morning, our current president endorsed a comment made by a conservative talk show radio host stating that, “President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world… he’s like the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God…”  there is more to this but I do not want to give it more press than it has already received.

A little later on in the morning, the administration announced that they will unveil a rule allowing to hold migrant families in detention centers indefinitely.
These two extremely offensive situations cannot be further from each other on the spectrum. And I am sitting here dumbfounded thinking to myself, how can evangelicals/Christians still support this guy? This is not a rhetorical question, I am genuinely at a loss on how people can still support him. There were things I never thought those who believe in a risen Jesus would compromise on, one would be lifting up a powder orange idol to lay their heads and worry’s at. I realize that we have the great ability to look at politicians as if they are messiah’s coming to fix all of our perceived issues.
What is going on isn’t just not normal, it is not right. How selfish are we that this is the king of evangelicals?
I realize this post is more of a lament than anything, and honestly today I have reached some sort of breaking point. I’m sure tomorrow (or later on this evening) there is going to be another thing he or his administration does that is deeply upsetting and completely contradicts the idea of what Christianity should be but, I just do not get it.
At what cost do people decide to sell their souls to nationalism?
