Review of The Intuitive’s Oracle: Powerful Practices from Intuitives, Psychics & Mediums by Angela Orora Medway-Smith, Janne Ringius, et al.

The Intuitive’s Oracle is a collaboration on spiritual development and personal growth featuring a total of seventeen authors who are intuitives, psychics and mediums, and who share the techniques which have worked for them. They are led by Angela Orora Medway-Smith, who is a Practical Mystic, Welsh spiritual channel and teacher, master healer, coach, retreat leader, and multiple best-selling author.

Ms Medway-Smith believes that your intuition, psychic and mediumship powers are abilities, and not gifts. This means that “everybody can develop these extra-sensory perceptions” with work and practice.

At the end of the day, we all have to find our own path to spiritual awakening. With seventeen different approaches and more than fifty practices, there’s a good chance that at least a few of those will resonate with each reader.

To develop psychic and mediumship skills, Ms Medway-Smith states it is important to enhance the intuition which we are all born with. She states that intuition is “the quiet knowing that guides you when logic has no answer, the subtle inner voice that nudges you in one direction, or the sudden image or sensation that seems to come from nowhere. In truth, your intuition is never random; it is the language of your soul, constantly whispering guidance from realms beyond the purely physical. For some, this inner knowing is a faint background hum. For others, it’s an ever-present part of daily life.”

The Introduction is essential reading as Ms Medway-Smith defines the terms used throughout the book and provides helpful signs of how it feels to go through a spiritual awakening and attuning into the All. There are outlines of the importance of self-care, spiritual self-defense, and pretty much everything that the serious seeker needs to know for their journey.

In her chapter, Ms Medway-Smith outlines “the importance of developing a relationship and communication with your guardian angel and team of guides in Spirit.” In ceremonial magick there is much emphasis on what is referred to as the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel (HGA), which means developing a relationship and being able to communicate with the guardian angel. This chapter provides interesting tips that will be of interest to ceremonial magicians as well as the target audience.

While each chapter has much interesting information to digest, I will focus on Chapter 3 The Oracle Of Intuition: Defeating the Inner Judge – An Intuitive’s Path to Freedom by Janne Ringius.

Ms Ringius is a Danish spiritual mediator, writer and artist, currently finishing a book about her journey of spiritual growth life which began in Africa in 1997. I actually met Ms Ringius on a spiritual property known as The Farm, in Paarl in the Cape Winelands, South Africa, in 2001. I also slept on the floor of one of the small wooden cabins on the farm she referred to in her chapter, although my experience was somewhat less traumatic than hers. This is the first time that Ms Ringius’ writings have appeared in English.

Ms Ringius’ experiences in South Africa were very personal and traumatic but led to her finding her own path and understanding that her true spiritual connection with her higher self was overshadowed by a patriarchal pattern. She came to realize that:

“You don’t have to remember what happened in this life, your ancestors’ lives, or in past incarnations, to release it from your energy field and your life.”

Ms Ringius’ own soul’s path held a higher purpose, which was to tell her story. Her chapter concludes with “a practice that can help you free yourself from the past and subconscious patterns,  that does not serve your life today.” This powerful practice involves calling on spirit guides and working with the seven chakras.

After each of the authors have shared their wisdom, Ms Medway-Smith ties everything together with suggestions for further development in the fields of divination, energy work and mediumship. She also provides a number of additional exercises.

The strength of The Intuitive’s Oracle is in the diversity of input from numerous experts and the skill of Ms Medway-Smith in bringing it all together in a cohesive way. As mentioned previously, I particularly enjoyed the references to working with the guardian angel as well as with intuition, as these are important in other spiritual modalities, and provide a different perspective.
