 Children and Religion

“Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest…(Luke 9v48)

Children are naturally inquisitive and intuitive. They are honest (sometimes too honest) and love with their whole heart.

As a parent, we can sometimes hone in on what we think our kids need to learn, to change, and to become, so much that we can sometims lose sight of what they want to learn, change and become themselves.

Pew Research Study

About a third of U.S. teens (32%) say they are religiously unaffiliated, including 6% who describe themselves as atheists, 4% who are agnostics, and 23% who say their religion is “nothing in particular.”

When I read this report, I asked God, “Is this because of parents pushing their agenda so badly onto their kids that they are pushing them away from religion?”

Sometimes, as parents, we can get so focused on what we want for our child(ren) that it can feel like we are preoccupied with their faults and shortcomings.

If  only my child was better behaved. I wish my child wanted to sing in choir. Why can’t my child was skinner…

How To Get Your Child Interested In Religion

Children and young adults are always watching you. You truly do lead by the example you set, especially in your household. If you want your child interested in Religion, then you must become passionate about it and share the journey without judgment.

The Bible Tells us; In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

  – Matthew 5:16

Your actions will always speak louder than your words.

What If My Child Doesn’t Believe In God?

If your child tells you he or she does not believe in God, you may want to allow them to speak more about why and try to see it through their perspective. As a Christian, it is still our job to love and treat everyone with respect, regardless of religious affiliation and race.

A Strong Affirmation

Try telling your child(ren) often that they are wonderful beings exactly as they are. They are loved right now in this moment without changing or improving. With no comparisons and no pushing to be better. You just love them. Thank them for being.

A Prayer

Dear God

Help us to love our family members unconditionally. Let us love one another without judgment and conditions. Thank you for my family and their support.-Amen
