J. H. McKenna holds a Ph.D. in the study of religion and since 1992 has taught at several American universities. In 1999 he began teaching at the University of California Irvine, where he is on faculty in the History Department and also in the Religious Studies program (which is inter-departmental).
He is interested in the history of modern Western skepticism and the religious response to it. In addition to publishing in academic venues, Dr. McKenna has written for the LA Times and for the Huffington Post. In 2015 he founded Uponreligion.com, a venue for numerous other projects of his. Some of his popular essays on humanism have been translated into Dutch for the Humanist community in Holland.
