Hero’s Dream Journey Stage 10: Journey Back

Hero’s Dream Journey Stage 10: Journey Back March 18, 2013

Just as in stage three you explored the refusal of the call, in this stage you get to deal with the refusal of the return. Many heroes stop (or pause for an indefinite amount of time) at this stage because they figure they’ve been through enough. They really don’t have to remember their dreams and bring them full circle.

Warm and cozy in their toasty bed in the early morning hours, as the sun is gently filtering its warmth into their sleep zone, the hero has a critical choice to make. Will he or she leave their dreams on the pillow—floating aimlessly and stillborn (harsh, I know, but true) in the dreamtime? Or will the hero summon the courage to retrieve these wisps of dream brilliance and carry them back to the ordinary world?

If you set yourself up properly in stage one by de-cluttering your dream zone and placing your dream journal and a pen on your bedside table (or your phone with your www.DreamsCloud.com app) then you are in good shape to gently make your return. Now is the time to s-l-o-w-l-y roll over and record your remembered dream. This represents your willingness to tip toe your way back toward the ordinary world by remaining in the Hypnagogic State—the zone between sleep and awake—while you record your dream in your journal.

Contemplate the following questions:

•What is your biggest challenge to dream catching in the early morning hours (i.e. being too tired; being afraid to wake up your partner; being alarmed by your alarm clock; your dog or cat jumping on your bed; leaping out of bed too quickly to start your day?)
•Will you take the time to remember your dream(s) tonight?
•How will you catch your dream (i.e. journaling, drawing a picture, using the voice function on your DreamsCloud app, talking with a dream buddy/bed buddy)?
