Curse you, vampirestat.com!

Curse you, vampirestat.com! October 10, 2013

Just a gripe:  I’m really, really getting tired of the spammers which show up as pageviews in the Blogger statistics, with websites like vampirestat.com, seoanalyses.com, adsensewatchdog.com, 7secretsearch.com, and others.

They’re harmless, as long as you know enough not to click on unknown links.  Apparently, according to sources out their on the internet, these sites want to lure the unsuspecting blogger into clicking on a link, which takes them to a website where they either try to sell you something, or infect your computer with malware, or other undesirable consequences.  And since I do avoid clicking on anything that seems suspect (checking the URL of even links from instapundit.com to see if it’s a credible news source or not, after getting a virus a couple years ago), I haven’t fallen victim.

But it’s extremely frustrating to think, “wow — lots of pageviews!” and then discover that real people weren’t visiting my blog after all.  (And right now, I’m running out of energy for the project of “comment on other blogs, say something witty, and link to your own.)
