OK, so I finally finished a big project at work and am a bit more relaxed today. Via thegatewaypundit.com, here’s an article on Nelson Mandela’s past: “Nelson Mandela: A Terrorist? – Inconvenient Truths from a Christian Scholar“, which makes the point that, unlike the nonviolence of Gandhi, Mendala’s ANC was a terrorist organization. And, while the decision to promote reconciliation rather than take revenge against whites after taking power is praiseworthy, South Africa is a very troubled country now, with more than its fair share of murder and rape.
Not that I have too much to say on this — and I’d really have to read more lest I end up being uninformed — but it’s worth thinking about how we latch onto certain people as heroes, as secular saints, and not others.
