What happened to CNN.com? February 26, 2014

Seriously. I used to check them fairly often, as a generic news site, though I’d fallen out of the habit. Just now, during lunch, I pulled them up again. And here’s what they featured:

The top article: “BAD BUSINESS: Arizona Companies Reject Anti-Gay Bill.” It has an especially propagandistic feel because the entire site is framed in red, an ad for The Americans. The story itself doesn’t really have any details on the bill, which I understand to be a fairly narrowly crafted one, but just reports that company after company has lined up to threaten the state.

What else is on offer on the site? How about “I’m quitting my job. Thanks, Obamacare!” which reports on hardworking virtuous Americans retiring early thanks to ObamaCare, including a 51-year-old teacher who will now start her own business (and intends to hire 2 – 3 employees), a 57-year-old grocery clerk whose departure allowed a younger clerk to advance, and who will, he reports, spend the $450 he gains in ObamaCare subsidies by doing his share to help the local economy, and a 59-year-old engineer who will leave his corporate job to fix and build guitars and spend time with his grandchildren. In other words, they’re repeating the Democrats’ line that the shrinking of the labor force is a good thing.

So — I generally get my news from an actual newspaper, but where do you go for “straight news” on the internet?
