So, look, I’m overdue for a discussion of the current crop of GOP candidates (sorry, progressive readers — Clinton, Sanders, etc., are not an option), after having half-heartedly watched the debate last night, and I still don’t have much to offer as I’m out for most of the day.
Some initial thoughts:
Who are the credible candidates?
Walker — between his mannerisms and his appearance generally, looked more like a SNL parody than the real person. I think he’s also pushing that “I fought the WI Dems” history too hard, and that too much of his governing in WI is now aimed at positioning himself for the ’16 race.
Christie — I know he’s gotten a lot of grief from conservatives, but I liked him last night — perhaps simply because he was honest about entitlements.
Kasich was a surprise to me, and he seems to have a pretty decent resume, though I have the impression he’s trying to be a Huntsman (that is, not just RINO but “all my fellow Republicans stink”).
Rubio — I just can’t see it. Maybe he just lost me at his (proclaimed) change-of-mind on the Gang of 8 bill. Maybe I’m just not ready to vote for someone who is, or looks, younger than me.
Bush — sorry, but he’s categorically ruled out for political dynasty reasons.
So that’s it. Who am I missing? And what do you think?
