The Jane the Actuary “10 and change” challenge

The Jane the Actuary “10 and change” challenge June 10, 2016

Yeah, I told you about the “100 and change” project sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation.  If you’re a nonprofit with a great idea, you can compete for $100 million to implement it.

I don’t have $100 million to spare.

But I do have a couple bucks.

And we’re heading out on a vacation (FYI:  even if you’ve been determined enough to figure out who I am and where I live, we’ve got stay-at-home, work-at-home, and retired neighbors keeping an eye out) so blogging will be light, and I’d like to do something interesting, even if just via scheduled posts, while I’m gone.

So here’s my plan:

There are a couple Big Topics regarding which one might have solutions:

  • Retirement
  • Healthcare
  • Poverty
  • Education
  • and Islamism/ISIS.

What are your answers?

Each week, I’ll open up a post for discussion on one of these topics.  Give me your best ideas, something that’s not just another way of the government spending money, and we’ll all discuss them.

Then I’ll pick a winner.  Or maybe a couple finalists, for readers to vote on.

The prize?

Eh, a souvenir.  I’d invite the winner to pick the souvenir, but there won’t be a winner until after I get back.  But it’ll be something dandy — well, and easily portable in our suitcases back (no massive beer stein).  I’m open to suggestions:  our itinerary is London, the Netherlands, the Moselle/Rhine Valley area, Augsburg and Munich.

What do you think?  You in?
