Three Days After

Three Days After November 11, 2016

Folks, just a few words of perspective:

November 8th was the election, and, yes, many people are angry and upset at the outcome, and others are simply saddened, or concerned.

November 9th?  The anniversary of the beginning of Kristallnacht, the two-day period of violence against Jews and the destruction of Jewish property, particularly synogogues, in Germany, in 1938.  (For a refresher, see Wikipedia.)  There was a comparison floating around on twitter that the election of Trump is just as bad as Kristallnacht, which is a pretty dumb comparison.

Also:  in 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall.  It was, of course, mere coincidence that these two events occured on the same date, 51 years apart.

November 10th:  well, not that you all would know, but November 10th was an anniversary, too — the one-year anniversary of the death of a close friend of my husband’s.  As his widow marked this anniversary on facebook, we were all reminded to put the election into perspective.

And — by the way — the stock market yesterday had its second day of gains rather than losses.  Yeah, I didn’t expect that, particularly after what happened when the UK unexpectedly Brexited.

And today, November 11th, is Veteran’s Day, so thank a veteran.  My dad served, but was lucky enough to have been sent to Germany in the early 60s, where he had a fun time and has nothing but good memories.  His college roommate was in the Air Force ROTC, got sent to Vietnam, and was shot down almost immediately.
