My middle son’s birthday is December 17th, and we (my husband and I) are the sort of people who don’t do a lot of big Christmas things, so we tend to do our shopping at the last minute, that is, getting a start after the birthday celebration is done. And today is the last day one can order off Amazon and still get free shipping!
Youngest son: age 7, second grade. He likes Legos (though he has plenty already), art, and reading. He’s read the Magic Tree House series and is ready for something more difficult, but not yet ready for something as involved as Harry Potter, for instance.
Middle son: age 12, sixth grade. He likes board games, chess, history (the Romans!) and kids’ fantasy (e.g., Fablehaven, Percy Jackson). He’d be interested in some more serious construction/STEM-type toy but I hesitate because I don’t think he’d stick with it.
Oldest son: age 14, ninth grade. He’s hardest to buy for. He likes science, but he doesn’t, again, have the follow-through for a complex sort of “kit.” He likes music, especially what they play in Jazz Band at school. And he likes going on campouts with the scouts. (There’s talk about outings specifically for the high school-aged scouts, but nothing’s materialized yet.)
Any ideas?
