One year ago on Sunday Jane the Actuary opened its doors and I invited the world to witness my attempts at commentary on the news and to discuss it all with me.
I’ve been thinking about how to mark the occasion.
I have a draft post in which I tell my readers what I’ve learned, and haven’t learned, over the year, and how this project is going. But it’s a lousy post, too full of navel-gazing and whining about wanting more readers, so I think it’ll stay in draft form indefinitely.
And I considered taking a cue from the mommy-blogs that I used to read, and doing a giveaway. Of course, the high-traffic mommy blogs get items from advertisers, for which they write a review and then give away one of to a reader, others give away their own product in their home businesses, and the low-traffic blogs give things away for the more pedestrian reason of generating traffic. But that seemed a bit desperate. (Unless you’d like the Starbucks gift card I won for a guessing contest at work? I’m not a coffee drinker.)
So instead I’ll just ask this:
If you’re a regular reader, or semi-regular, or even just sporadically stop by, please do me the favor of saying hello in the comments. Tell me how you landed here, give me some feedback, tell me what topics you’re interested in and what other blogs/news sites you follow, and tell me something about yourself. I’ll keep this post up on top for the weekend.
And then we’ll all settle in to watch Germany v. Argentina, and I’ll let you know on Monday if I won the office pool or not. (Small office, and my method was nothing more spectacular than “pick the teams you have a vague impression of being the best” but I was ahead as of Thursday.)
