Proverbs 31:10-31 Thank God for Mom

Proverbs 31:10-31 Thank God for Mom

I looked at a photo of my parents Thursday evening. It is sitting in my office. They made the photo last year. My parents will celebrate forty years of marriage next marriage. My mother will turn 57 in August. We talk on the phone every Sunday evening. However, in the last ten years, I think I have met with my mother a total of seven times in person.

Of course, I have sent her a Mother’s Day card and/or flowers every year. But I have had little contact. However, I still honor her on Mother’s Day. Today we take the time to praise and honor mothers. So let me begin by sharing about my mother.

My mother, Barbara, is very smart. She never made less than an “A” or “1” until her third year in college. She was very good in science and math. However, languages were not her specialty. She had problems learning Spanish.

She is artistic. She paints on canvases, wood, metal, tools, ties, and even gourds. She could probably paint on cats and dogs if that were possible.

But I have a second mother now. Mama Ruth. She is just as talented. Mama Ruth can cook differently than Mom Barbara. Mama Ruth was a refugee (“fluchtling”) from Silesia (“Schlesian”) after the Second World War, which is now in Poland. She speaks two languages: German and Schwäbisch.

So now I take time to honor both mothers. I spend time on Mother’s Day to celebrate what they have given to me. When Heike becomes a mother, we will celebrate that together as well.

Perhaps you want to thank God for your mother. Do you want to share with us about it? We took up an offering to honor our mothers. Here are some things you said:

It doesn’t matter whether your mother was married, single, adopted, a step-mother, grandmother, or a kind lady. Just as King Lemur’s mother and wife had an impact on his life, your mother has an impact on your life. If you are a mother, you have a special impact on the people you develop and mentor.

To all moms, mums, mamas, muttern, muttis, ma’s – we say:

Thank God for you. We stand together and thank you for blessing our lives.
