 National Pride Brings Desolation

“I will make the land of Egypt a desolation among desolate lands, and its cities will be a desolation among ruined cities for 40 years. I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them across the countries.” (Ezekiel 29:12, HCSB)
God didn’t just exile the Israelites. He also exiled the Egyptians. He exiled Israel to keep them humble, and to pay for sin. In the case of Israel, they would return and grow to be an influential country on the world stage. For Egypt, that would never be the case.
“Egypt will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again exalt itself over the nations. I will make them so small they cannot rule over the nations.” (Ezekiel 29:15, HCSB)
This event in the Old Testament is a lesson for modern countries as well. Leaders who think they are more powerful than God will see consequences.
“…Because you said, ‘The Nile is my own; I made it,’” (Ezekiel 29:9, HCSB)
When leaders and governments brag about its own accomplishments without acknowledging God in the process, they run the risk of destroying their own country. Personal pride leads before a personal fall. National pride can lead to a fall of the nation and its powerful influence in the world.
