Culture Watch: New Mexico Approves Assisted Suicide

“A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.” (John 10:10, HCSB)

According to CNN, a judge has recently approved an order allowing New Mexico doctors to assist terminal patients who want to end their life. Three states allow assisted suicide according to this article (which also gives more background to the issue of assisted suicide) from Wikipedia. For example, there is a difference between assisted suicide and euthanasia:

Assisted suicide is often confused with euthanasia (sometimes called “mercy killing”). In cases of euthanasia, another party acts to bring about the person’s death in order to end ongoing suffering. In cases of assisted suicide, a second person provides the means through which the individual is able to voluntarily end their own life, but they do not directly cause the individual’s death.

The devil comes as a thief to destroy life. Abortion is the murder of children before they are born into this world. Assisted suicide is the murder of people who no longer want to live. This is in contrast to how Jesus wants us to live. Jesus came to give us life, so that we could have a full and abundant life.
