Butterfly People

I just watched a newscast that talked about the anniversary of the 2011 Joplin tornado. There was a memorial set up for the victims of the tragic event. However, one statement struck me. One man being interviewed said that they put butterflies all over the memorial because people who didn’t go to church thought that “Butterfly People” were saving them.

Below is an interview with Tracy Lawrence about a song which was inspired by these stories. He gives a good explanation about who these “butterfly people” are: angels.

The Bible has lots to say about angels. They are creatures created by God to serve Him. Part of their job description is to protect and help us. They help people before they come to Christ.

Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve those who are going to inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14, HCSB)

Angels are also here to help Christians. When God gives orders to angels, some of those orders are to help and protect us. Angels are God’s messengers, God’s deliverers, God’s helpers, and God’s worshippers. Ultimately thought, they are God’s servants for us. They are our spiritual guardians in times of crisis when we need supernatural help. Christians are not called to worship angels. However, the work of angels can help people begin to see God work in their lives. Angels can help point people to Jesus Christ.

For He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways.” (Psalm 91:11, HCSB)

Angels as “Butterfly People.” What an interesting description. Are we coming to the point in society where we can’t really identify angels as God’s agents? Or are these just descriptions by people who are Biblically illiterate and do not know Jesus Christ?
