Always Promoting the Father

December 20, 2014 Year B

The Angel of the Lord said to him, “If I stay, I won’t eat your food. But if you want to prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the Lord.” For Manoah did not know He was the Angel of the Lord. (Judges 13:19, HCSB)

The parents of the future judge Samson were instructed by The Angel of the Lord (another name for the preincarnate Christ) about how the boy would be raised. In the midst of this conversation, the parents offer Him a meal. He declines and then tells them to offer a sacrifice to God the Father.

You would think that Jesus would promote Himself. Instead, even before His time has come, He is promoting the Father. That is part of His role as the Son. The Son is always promoting the Father.

Application: If Jesus decided it necessary to promote the Father, then surely the children of God should also promote the Father.

Prayer: God, please help me to promote You. Help me be more like Your Son Jesus who took the time to avoid the spotlight and promote You.
