Heavenly Wisdom

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good

fruits, without favoritism and hypocrisy. (James 3:17, HCSB)

James shows us here that there is a wisdom that comes from above – heavenly wisdom. This wisdom has the following characteristics:

Pure

Peace-loving

Gentle

Compliant

Merciful

Fruitful

Non-prejudice

Non-hypocritical

These seven characteristics are available to people who listen to God and His wisdom. These are qualities that a person will manifest from listening and following God’s way.

God wants us to develop these qualities. If so, it produces righteous or right living (James 3:18). Heavenly wisdom does that. It helps us along the right way.

This list is similar to the list in Galatians 5:22-23. In that list the result is Spirit-filled living. Here, the list results in right living. The similarity tells one that the Spirit, Who comes from heaven above, can produce these qualities.

Application: If I follow what God tells me to do, He helps produce these positive qualities in my life.

Prayer: God, give me Your wisdom from above so that I may have these positive qualities.
