A New (and Better) Hope

A New (and Better) Hope is a simple thought reflection from the Hebrews 7:11-12 about how Jesus is a new (and better) hope than Star Wars.

Hebrews 7:11-12

In the Star Wars saga, the fourth episode of the series (but the first one aired) is entitled “A New Hope.” The premise was that unlike the previous hope – Anakin Skywalker, there is now a new hope in Luke Skywalker, his son. The old hope that was placed in Anakin failed when Anakin turned to the dark side in Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi had placed their hope in a man they thought would be able to save the galaxy. Instead, they were wrong. This old hope did not fulfill expectations. A new hope had to be introduced to help people see that it was possible to overcome evil in the world, overthrow the Empire, and bring peace to the galaxy.

In the same way, the Old Testament system of the Levitical  priesthood did not fulfill God’s expectations for eternal peace. Aaron came from the priestly tribe of the Levites. The system that was introduced kept people in spiritual slavery to an Empire of the priesthood by obeying the Law. While the law had a good purpose, it did not fulfill its required function (Hebrews 7:18).

The old hope or way to God was about a priesthood and following a group of laws (Hebrews 7:18). However, a better hope has been introduced in Jesus Christ (Hebrews 7:19). He has a better heritage (Hebrews 7:16-17), a better oath (Hebrews 7:21-22) and can guarantee a better agreement with the people He leads (Hebrews 7:22).

Who will you place your hope in? The old hope that does nothing to guarantee eternal peace. However, the new hope in Jesus can provide eternal peace.

Prayer: Thank You God that You have provided a better hope in Your Son Jesus Christ.
