God's Eternal Reign

God's Eternal Reign

God’s Eternal Reign

November 19, 2015 Year B
The Bible teaches about a process for humans. You and I are born, we grow to adulthood. We live a full life of work, family, and other interests. We grow old and then we die. After death, we go to a state of eternity – either in Heaven or Hell.

God, however, never goes through that process. He has existed eternally in the past from His throne in Heaven (Psalm 93:2). He has been in authority since before the beginning of time (Psalm 93:1). God’s power is derived from the fact that He is eternal (Psalm 93:3-4). God has an eternal nature about Him that humans will never have. Thinking about the fact that God has existed before time and that He was always there reigning in Heaven is difficult for many people to comprehend or accept. Personally, when I try to think about this concept – that God has existed in the past eternally, it is mind-blowing. I ask myself questions like:

How can God be an ever-existing Being? (This is a variation on the “who created God?” question.)

What did God do for all that time in the past? (Did God get bored and decide to create?)

Accepting that God has eternally existed requires faith.

God’s eternal reign gives us great promise. Because His reign is eternally true, we can trust God (Psalm 93:5). We can trust that He will be there for us. While we live in this life, we can trust that God will be with us. When we die, we can trust that God is ready for us to arrive.

God will not be surprised when we show up in Heaven. He will be ready for us. He will be ready to spend the rest of eternity with His children.

Prayer: God, thank You for Your eternal reign. I am confident that You are with me in life. I look forward to You reception in heaven.
