There is a famous phrase: “kill them with kindness.” The phrase means that you can change a person by being kind.
The inclination for many people is to repay evil with evil. Take vengeance on a person. Do to them what they have done to you. Yet the Bible teaches that Christians shouldn’t take the route of revenge (Romans 12:17, Romans 12:19).
God is a God of vengeance. That means that He will take care of evil in His time. He knows how to punish those who commit evil. His punishment will fit their crime (Romans 12:19 ).
Instead, God calls us to do good. It doesn’t matter how evil a person is, we are called to do good (Romans 12:20). When we do good things for evil people, they react by being upset at themselves with sorrow.
Sometimes, I think it is hard is it for me to repay evil with good. Oftentimes, I feel tempted to exact vengeance on an evil person. I have to submit to God my desire for vengeance.
Prayer: God, please help me repay good for evil, even when I feel the need for vengeance.
