The Christian Bill of Rights

The Christian Bill of Rights March 1, 2018

If you are a Christian you need to know your rights.

According to Jesus and the Apostles, as a follower of Jesus, you have the right to:

*Give up everything for Christ: “In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.” – Jesus (Luke 14:33)

*Lay down your life for others: “Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (1 Jn. 3:16)

*Serve everyone God places in your path: “The greatest among you will be your servant.” – Jesus (Mt. 23:11)

*Love God: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” – Jesus (Mt. 22:37)

*Love other Christians: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” – Jesus (Jn. 13:35)

*Love your enemies: “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” – Jesus (Mt. 5:43-48)

*Care for the poor: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” – Jesus (Mt. 25:40)

*Lose your life: “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” – Jesus (Mt. 16:25)

Now that you know your rights, it’s time to go out there and start exercising them.

Celebrate your freedom in Christ today!

I like how you titled your article, “The Christian Bill of Rights.” .It’s all about love, caring, and humility

The verses in Matthew 22 where Jesus gave us the two greatest commandments is the love for God and all mankind. We say we love God but loving and forgiving our enemies is not easy. Our love toward our fellow Christians, parents, siblings, spouses, children, and friends, is much easier than loving our enemies and strangers we do not know. Then I am reminded we all fall short of the glory of God. No matter how we are personally wronged or see wrongdoing toward others, we are to forgive them. Not that we would make our enemies our closest friends. We are to love the person but to hate the wrong doing, never forgetting that God is the Judge of all, because only He reads the hearts of mankind.

The mainstream consensus is that the NT scriptures were originally written in the Koine Greek language where the word for love has a broad meaning. The Greek words are mainly, agape, storge. philia, and eros.

After I read your post it bought to mind “The Second Bill of Rights” as outlined by President Franklin D. Roosevelt almost a century ago. Those Rights embodied fairness, caring, and freedom from want of need. Some of those rights have been enacted, but unfortunately not everyone benefits.
