This Is Where God Lives

I honestly believe that one of the most transformative truths that most Christians still haven’t fully embraced is this: God is not “up there.”

The pervasive notion that God is in Heaven, and that Heaven is in some mystical realm far above and beyond this realm of physical reality is not only dangerous to our spiritual growth and development, it’s also dead wrong.

Allow me to elaborate:

*Jesus is “Immanuel” which is literally “God with us.” [Matt. 1:23]

*Jesus promised never to leave us or to forsake us.  [Heb. 13:5]

*Jesus said that he and the Father would make their home IN us. [John 14:23]

*Jesus also promised to prepare a place that where he is, we may be also. [John 14:2]

*Jesus urged us to “abide in him” and that he would “abide in us.” [John 15:4]

*We’re also told that “God is love, and whoever lives in love lives in God and God in them.” [1 John 4:16]

*Heaven, by definition, is wherever God is.

*If God has made His home in us, then Heaven is right here – in us.

SO…God [and Jesus] are NOT “up there” somewhere far away.

God, and Jesus, are BOTH alive in us right now.

We are all created in the image of God.

God lives in those who live in love.

Jesus is “God with us.”

God is love.

Nothing will ever separate us from the love of God. [Romans 8:35-39]

Therefore: God is not “up there.”

God is “in here.”

God is with us.

God will never leave us.

So, please, try to walk in this and live daily as if this is your primary frame of reference.

You and I are not waiting for Jesus to show up.

Jesus abides in us now.

Let’s learn to abide in Jesus [who abides in us].

If you want to know where God is now, just look around.

God is alive in your spouse.

God is alive in your children.

God is alive in your co-workers.

God is alive in your neighbors.

God is alive in your enemies.

God is alive in every single human being you will ever meet.

“For God is the one in whom we all live, and move, and have our being. He is our Father and we are His children.”  – The Apostle Paul [speaking to idol-worshipping Pagans in Athens], see Acts 17:28

This is where God lives: In everyone. Even you.
