Our Necessary Chaos

Our Necessary Chaos April 18, 2024

As I was interviewing author Mary Terhune [Out of  the Blue] for my Second Cup with Keith podcast earlier this week, she kept mentioning our present Awakening into enlightenment, as if it were something that was already true.

After the third or fourth time she used that phrase, I had to stop her and ask her why she was talking as if this collective Awakening into Oneness was already happening, when, to me, it clearly was not.

From everything I’m experiencing, we are currently in the worst season of conflict and division that I’ve ever known in my lifetime. From genocide in the Middle East to war in Ukraine; from political hate in the media to religious divisions separating families and ending marriages and friendships, all I see, everywhere I look, is pure division and separation.

Her answer to my question really stunned me and made me step back to reevaluate the way I was seeing my world.

Here’s what she said:

“Well…it IS happening. Awakening happens in chaos. It’s showing us, quite frankly, [and asking us] ‘do you want to live this way, [in horizontal chaos]? Or do you want to live this way, [in vertical connection and oneness with shared Divine consciousness] ? Which way do you want to live? This is what is being shown to us in absolute clarity. Nothing could be clearer. Here’s our choice. This is your free will. This is what free will is, and it’s not free, it’s going to cost you. If you want to keep living [in chaos] you’re going to live in suffering. If you want to live [in connection with the Divine reality] you’re going to live in freedom. This is why we can see division so clearly. It’s either the Egoic way, or the Oneness way. As Eckhart Tolle says, ‘Transformation happens in chaos.'”

That simple statement really rocked me hard and I’ve been contemplating the reality of it ever since.

When I mentioned this to my wife, Wendy, her comment added another angle to this concept that really brought it home for me.

She said: “It’s like experiencing birth pangs.”

Exactly.

So, my inability to “see” the Awakening in progress was because my focus was on the birthing and not on the baby that was on the way.

In other words, the suffering we’re experiencing now is evidence that the new life is about to enter the world.

Our reality is inevitably moving into an awareness and awakening of Oneness, and the proof of that is the current experience of division, separation and chaos we’re moving through now.

Our suffering is the evidence of peace. Our division is our sign of connection. Our chaos is what’s leading us to calm.

Do we have eyes to see this? Do we have ears to hear?

Are we ready for the end of suffering and division? Are we eager for the awakening into Oneness and shared Divinity and Humanity?

Ready or not, I believe this is where we’re headed. One way, or another.

Let it be.
