10 Reasons Not To Attend NOMAD 2020

Not sure if you’ve seen any ads for this new online conference called NOMAD 2020 but I wanted to warn you about it just in case you were thinking of attending.

Here are 10 Reason NOT to attend NOMAD 2020.

1. It has too many speakers – Seriously. Why do they need 12 of them? Is that really necessary? Talk about overkill. Certainly 6 or 7 would have been sufficient.
2. They feature women speakers – Everyone knows God only speaks through old white men, and women should  only teach children’s church or other women. Am I right?
3. Not enough old white men – Sure, they’ve got a few. Todd Vick, Karl Forehand and Bill Thrasher are especially white – and old. But, some of these guys aren’t even old, or white. What’s up with that?
4. It’s only $29 for 3 days – That should be a huge red flag right there. Why isn’t this event $650 to attend? Any Christian conference less than $500 per ticket must not be worth it. I’d pay way more if they asked me.
5. They talk about deconstruction and doubt – What kind of Christian conference doesn’t emphasize victory over sin? Or just sin itself? How can we get to the Good News if we don’t first spread the Bad News?
6. Too much emphasis on “Love” and “Jesus” and “Reconciliation” – Just reading over those session titles makes me nervous – “None Who Wander Are Lost”, “Unity Beyond Beliefs”, “Sacred Encounter On The Road Away From God”, “Finding Heavenly Peace When You’re Scared As Hell”, etc. Are they kidding me?
7.  Some of these people are heretics – I’m serious. One of them drops F-bombs like ATT&T drops calls. Another dude even hosts a podcast called the “Heretic Happy Hour” [I kid you not]. A few of these presenters doubt the inerrancy and infallibility of scripture and even teach that Eternal Torment isn’t what the Bible teaches. These people are dangerous, my friends. Beware!
8. They affirm LGBTQ+ Christianity – Can you believe that? I’m pretty sure a few of these sessions might even focus on how EVERYONE is created in the image of God and dearly loved NO MATTER WHAT! Are you listening to me? They’re saying you can be gay and love Jesus, and not only that, but that Jesus would love you if you were gay! Wow.
9. No big names are participating – If this event is so dang awesome, then where are the big guns? Where are the usual conference gurus whose names we already know and love? It makes me wonder what these new voices might have to say, but without the stamp of approval that comes with minor Christian celebrity how will I know which sessions to watch and which ones to skip? Do they expect us to watch all of them and decide for ourselves which ones are valuable and life-changing? Sheesh.
10. They’re hosting live Zoom Q&A sessions – It’s bad enough we have to attend online, but then they want us to log into a live Zoom call with the presenters and interact with them directly? Why can’t I just fill out a response card and drop it into the offering plate when it comes around? These guys actually want us to add our own voices to the conversation? Aren’t they the experts? Why don’t they just tell us what to think like a normal Christian teacher? Do we have to think for ourselves? I mean, what am I paying them $29 for?

I’m not sure about you, but if those 10 reasons aren’t enough to keep you away, maybe you need to head over to their landing page and just look for yourself at all these guys are packing into a 3 day online conference for less than the cost of a night at the Olive Garden.

But don’t say I didn’t warn you. This NOMAD 2020 event is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Who knows, it might even change your life.
