One of the great joys of my life is that I am the pastor of Rosemary Baptist Church. I received the call to serve Rosemary in 2009, and have had the opportunity to share the life of faith with the people of Rosemary since. The people of Rosemary do the work of discipleship quietly. They are not the type for grandstanding or for bragging. They simply serve God and love their neighbors regularly.

Our people have given of their time, energy, and treasure to care for infant orphans in Guatemala, they have prepared gifts for inmates in local correctional institutes, they have given so that children around the world would have Christmas presents, they have given to children in a cottage in our denomination’s orphanage, they have painted at a local battered woman’s shelter, they have volunteered to serve in local charities, and they have worked to help those affected by natural disasters. This record of care, while extensive, is the work Rosemary people have done in the last four months.

Their genuine love for God expresses itself in love for each other, their community, and the world.

I know it is fashionable to put down the church. I get it. The church has its warts. We are not fully who we have been created to be, yet. I know the church has caused many people great pain. I also know, however, that there are people who, without fanfare, do God’s work every day. I am proud to be the pastor of a group of people like that.
