2014

2014 January 1, 2014

Here’s my wish for you in 2014: may all of life’s little ineffabilities work out in your favor.  May every bus be on time and every traffic light green.  When things break, may it always be just after you’ve gotten what you most needed from their lives.  Every time you reach into the closet, may you come out with something that looks fabulous.

I’m not wishing this because it will be convenient, although surely it will be, but because it’s the easiest way I can think of to get you to my real wish, which is that you know your own sources of deep joy and strengthen your connection to them.  It’s easy to think that if we just removed the little frustrations from our lives, we’d be swimming in a sea of delight.  If that turns out to be true, well, then this is still a great wish.  But if, as I suspect, it is not true, then I hope that pockets of ease make room for whatever is deep and true within you to emerge and flourish this year.

May it be so.
