Translation, 1 Kings 18 February 16, 2005

And it was many days.
Now the word of Yahweh was to ?Eliyyahu in the third year, saying,

?Walk, cause-yourself-to-be-seen to ?Achav
And I will give rain on the face of the earth.?E
And walked ?Eliyyahu to cause-himself-to-be-seen to ?Achav
Now the famine was strong in Shomron.
And called ?Achav to ?Ovadyahu who [was] over the house ?E
Now ?Ovadyahu feared Yahweh, very much,
And it was in the cutting-off of ?Iyzevel of the prophets of Yahweh
And took ?Ovadyahu 100 prophets
And he safeguarded them fifty men in a cave
And he provided bread and water ?E
And said ?Achav to ?Ovadyahu
?Walk in the land to all the eyes of water and to all the wadis.
Perhaps we will find vegetation
And we will keep-alive horse and mule
And we will not cut off from the cattle.?E
And they divided to them the land to pass through on her.
?Achav walked in one way alone.
Now ?Ovadyahu walked in one way alone.
And ?Ovadyahu was in the way
Now ?EPOOF ?E?Eliyyahu to call him
And he recognized him
And he fell on his face, and he said,
?Is this you yourself, my master ?Eliyyahu??E
And he said to him,
?I.
Walk, say to your master,
?See here! ?Eliyyahu!??
And he said,
?How have I sinned?
For you give your servant into the hand of ?Achav
To cause him to die.
Life of Yahweh, your Elohim!
If there is not a nation and kingdom
Which my master has not sent there to search you out.
And they said, ?There is not,?E
And he imposed-an-oath on the kingdom or nation
For they did not find you.

But now, you yourself say,
?Walk, say to your master, ?See here! ?Eliyyahu!??
And it will be, I myself will walk from you
But Spirit of Yahweh will carry you over which I do not know
And I will enter to announce to ?Achav
But he will not find you
And he will murder me.
But your servant has feared Yahweh from my youth.

Has it not been announced to my master
Which I did in the murdering (killing-time) of ?Iyzebel of the prophets of Yahweh
And I safeguarded from the prophets of Yahweh
100 men, fifty-fifty men, in a cave
And I provided them bread and water?
But now, you yourself say,
?Walk, say to your master, ?See here! ?Eliyyahu!??
And he will murder me.?E
And said ?Eliyyahu,
?Life of Yahweh of hosts!
Which I stand before his face.
For the day I will cause-myself-to-be-seen to him.

And walked ?Ovadyahu
to call ?Achav
And he announced to him.
And walked ?Achav
to call ?Eliyyahu.
And it was according to the seeing of ?Achav of ?Eliyyahu
And said ?Achav to him,
?Is this you
Troubler of Yisrael??E
And he said,
?Not! I do not trouble Yisrael.
For if you yourself and the house of your father
In your forsaking the commandments of Yahweh
And you walked after the Baals.
But now, send and gather to me all Yisrael to Har-Karmel
And the prophets of the ball, four hundred and fifty
And the prophets of Asherah, four hundred,
The eaters of the table of ?Iyzebel.?E
And sent ?Achav in all the sons of Yisrael
And he gathered the prophets to Har-Karmel.
Then drew near ?Eliyyahu to all the people and he said,
?How long will you be limping between two crutches.
If Yahweh is the Elohim, walk after him.
But if the Baal, walk after him.?E
And the people did not answer him a word.
And said ?Eliyyahu to the people,
?I myself I remain a prophet to Yahweh, alone.
But the prophets of the Baal are four hundred and fifty men.
And let them give to us two bulls
And they choose for themselves the one bull
And they shall cut it
And they shall place it on the word
But fire they shall not place.
And I, myself, will make the one bull
And I will give on the wood
But fire I will not set.
And you shall call on the name of your Elohim.
But I, myself, will call on the name of Yahweh.
And it will be the Elohim who answers in fire
He [is] the Elohim.?E
And answered all the people and they said
?Good [is] the word/thing.?E
And said Eliyyahu to the prophets of the Baal,
?Choose for yourselves the one bull
And make first, for you are many.
And call on the name of your Elohim.
But fire you shall not set.?E
And they took the bull which he gave to them
And they made
And they called on the name of the Baal from the morning until the noon, saying,
?Baal, answer us.?E
But there was no voice and there was no answer.
And they limped around the altar which they made.
And it was in the noon
Mocked them ?Eliyyahu and said,
?Call in a great voice
For Elohim is he.
For he is deep in thought.
For he is taking a s*** for himself.
For [there is] a journey for him.
Perhaps he himself sleeps and he is awakened.?E
And they called in a great voice
And they cut themselves according to their custom with swords and with spears
Until flowed blood on them.
And it was according to the passing-by of noon
And they prophesied until the ascensions of the tribute
And there was no voice
And there was no answer
And there was no attention.
And said ?Eliyyahu to all the people,
?Draw near to me.?E
And they drew near, all the people, to him.
And he healed the altar of Yahweh, the destroyed one.
And took Eliyyahu two and ten stones
According to the number of the tribes of the sons of Ya?aqov
Which was the word of Yahweh to him, saying,
?Yisrael shall be your name.?E
And he built the stones an altar in the name of Yahweh
And he made a high-trench according to the house of seahs of seed
Surrounding the altar.
And he laid out the wood and cut-in-pieces the ox
And set on the wood.
And he said,
?Fill four large-jars of water
And empty out on the ascension and on the wood.?E
And he said,
?A second.?E
And a second time they did.
And he said,
?A third.?E
And a third time they did.
And went/walked the water surrounding to the altar
And also the trench filled [with] water.
And it was in the ascensions of the tribute
And drew near Eliyyahu the prophet and said,
?Yahweh, Elohim of Avraham, Yitzchaq, and Yisrael
The day let it be know that You Yourself are Elohim in Yisrael.
And I, even I, your servant,
And in Your word I did all these things/words.
Answer me, Yahweh, answer me.
And this people will know that You Yourself [are] Yahweh the Elohim.
And you yourself turn their hearts backwards.?E
And fell fire of Yahweh
And it ate
the ascension
and the wood
and the stones
and the dust
and the water which was in the trench
it licked.
And feared all the people
And they fell on their faces and they said,
?Yahweh, He Himself is the Elohim!
Yahweh, He Himself is the Elohim!?E
And said ?Eliyyahu to them
?Seize the prophets of the Baal
A man do not save from them.?E
So they seized them
And Eliyyahu caused them to come down to the wadi Qiyshon
And they slaughter-sacrificed them there.
And said ?Eliyyahu to ?Achav,
?Ascend.
Eat and drink.
For the voice of tumult of rainfall.?E
And ascended ?Achav to eat and to drink
Now Eliyyahu ascended to the head of Karmel
And he bowed-down on the earth
And he set his face between his knees.
And he said to his lad,
?Ascend, please.
Gaze to the way of the sea.?E
And he ascended and he gazed and the said,
?There is not anything at all.?E
And he said, ?return?Eseven feet/times.
And it was in the seventh and he said,
?Behold, a cloud smaller than the palm of a man ascending from the sea.?E
And he said,
?Ascend, say to ?Achav,
?Tie and go down.
And the
rainfall will not hinder you.??
And it was until thus and until thus
And the heavens darknened, and the clouds and the Spirit/wind
And it was a great rainfall.
And rode ?Achav and walked/went to Yizre?elah.
Now the hand of Yahweh was to ?Eliyyahu
And he girded his loins
And he ran before the face of ?Achav until you are entering Yizre?elah.
