Translation, 1 Kings 21

Translation, 1 Kings 21 March 28, 2005

And it was after these things
A vineyard was to Navoth the Yizre?e?li,

Which [was] in Yizre?e?l near the palace of Achav king of Shomron.
And spoke Achav to Navoth saying
?Give to me your vineyard.
And it will be to me for a garden of greens.
For it [is] near next to my house.
And I will give to you in its place a better garden than it.
If it is good in your eyes I will give to you
Silver equivalent to this.?E
And said Navoth to Achav,
?Be it far from me from Yahweh
Giving the inheritance of my fathers to you.?E
And entered Achav to his house discouraged and raging
At the thing that spoke to him Navoth the Yizre?e?li.
And he said, ?I will not give to you the inheritance of my fathers.?E
And he lay on his bed, and turned his face, and did not eat bread.

And entered to him ?Iyzevel his wife
And she spoke to him,
?How this? Your spirit discouraged?
And there is not for you to eat bread??E
And he spoke to her,
?Because I spoke to Navoth the Yizre?e?li
?And said to him,
?Give to me your vineyard,
With silver or if it pleases you
I will give to you a vineyard in its place.?E
?And he said,
?I will not give to you my vineyard.??
And said to him ?Iyzevel his wife,
?You yourself now, you do kingship over Israel?
Arise, eat bread, and do good to your heart.
I myself will give to you the vineyard of Naboth the Yizre?e?li.?E

And she wrote scrolls in the name of Achav
And she sealed them in his seal
And she sent the scrolls to the elders and to the nobles
Who [were] in his city, the dwellers with Navoth.
And she wrote on scrolls, saying,
?Call a fast.
And cause-to-sit Navoth at the head of the people.
And cause-to-sit two men, sons of Beliyya?al next to him.
And let them accuse him, saying,
?You blessed Elohim and the king.?E
?And cause him to come forth and stone him and cause him to die.?E

And did the men of his city, the elders and the nobles which dwelt in his city
Just as sent to them ?Iyzevel.
According to the writing in scrolls which she sent to them.
And they called a fast and caused-to-sit Navoth at the head of the people.
And entered two men, sons of Beliyya?al,
And they sat next to him
And they accused, the men of the Beliyya?al, Naboth before the people, saying,
?Blessed Navoth Elohim and the king.?E
And they took him forth from-outside the city
And they stoned him with stones.
And he died.
And they sent to ?Iyzebel saying,
?Navoth is stoned and he died.?E

And it was according to the hearing of ?Iyzevel
That stoned was Navoth and he died,
And said ?Iyzebel to Achav,
?Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Navoth the Yizre?e?li
Who refused to give to you in silver.
For there is not Navoth alive.
For he died.?E
And it was according to the hearing of Achav
For Navoth was dead,
And arose Achav to go down to the vineyard of Navoth the Yizre?e?li
To take possession of it.

And it was word of Yahweh to Eliyyahu the Tishbiy, saying
?Arise. Go down to call Achav king of Yisrael who [is] in Shomron.
Behold, in the vineyard of Navoth,
Which he went down there to take possession of it.
And speak to him, saying,
?Thus says Yahweh,
?Slay you and also do you take possession??E
And you shall speak to him, saying,
?Thus says Yahweh,
?In the place which the dogs licked the blood of Navoth
the dogs shall lick your blood, also you.???E
And said Achav to Eliyyahu,
?Have you found me, my enemy??E
And he said,
?I have found.
Because you sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of Yahweh.
Behold I bring to you evil
And I will burn after you
And I will cause to cut off to Achav
The ones who piss on the wall
Both bound and loosed in Yisrael.
And I will give your house as the youse of Yarav?am, son of Nevat,
And as the house of Ba?asha?E son of Achiyyah.
To the provocation which you caused provocation
And you caused-to-sin Yisrael.
And also to ?Iyzebel speaks Yahweh, saying,
?The dogs shall eat ?Iyzevel in the portion of Yizre?e?l.?E
The One who dies to Achav in the city the dogs shall eat
And the one who dies in the field shall eat the birds of the heavens.?E
Certainly there was not according to Achav
Who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of Yahweh.
Whom incited him ?Iyzevel his wife.
And he did-abominations, very much
To walk after the s***-idols
In all which did the ?Emoryi
Whom Yahweh dispossessed before the face of the sons of Yisrael.
And it was according to the hearing of Achav these words
And he tore his clothes
And he put on sackcloth on his flesh
And fasted
And sat in sackcloth and walked depressed.
And it was word of Yahweh to Eliyyahu the Tichbiy, saying,
?Have you seen how Achav is humbled from My face?
Because he is humbled from My face
I Myself will not bring evil in his days.
In the days of his son I will cause to enter the evil on his house.?E
