New Moses

New Moses May 5, 2014

A thought inspired by a sermon from Pastor Rich Lusk.

Jesus tells His disciples that they disciple the nations by baptizing and teaching the nations His commands.

That is precisely the sequence of Jesus’ own life: Jesus moves out of the wilderness, crosses the Jordan in baptism, sets up a new Sinai on a mountain to teach the disciples a righteousness that surpasses the scribes’.

That is precisely what had happened to Israel: Baptized in the sea, they journeyed to a mountain where Yahweh gave them instruction/Torah.

What happened to Israel, and to the True Israel, is supposed to happen over and over among all nations: First a water-crossing, then a journey to a mountain, to learn all that Jesus commanded.
