JACOB’S DREAM
(5/19)
God was in this place – and I did not know it. (Genesis 28:16)
In the midst of a personal crisis, Jacob the patriarch goes to a quiet place to reflect on his life. Jacob has been a shady dealer, cheating his brother Esau out of his paternal blessing. Recognizing that his brother is seeking vengeance, Jacob wisely leaves town to search for a wife among his father’s relatives. He’s afraid of what may happen to him.
He stretches out with nothing but a stone for a pillow and during the night dreams of a ladder of angels, climbing from earth to heaven and back. He awakens from his dream, blessed by God and exclaiming “God was in this place and I did not know it.” He names of the place “Beth-El,” the house of God. He discovers that every place is a portal to divinity.
Do you know that your home is Beth-El, the house of God? Do you know that angels are in your midst wherever you are?
Your home can be a place of revelation. Your life can be a place of healing. You can find God in the simplest tasks. Jacob opened his eyes and discovered that God was in this place, and so can you!
Open your senses and you will discover the holiness of each moment and every day. You too can wake up and discover God’s home wherever you find yourself, blessed by divinity and now blessing the world.

God is in this place, the place where I am, and I open to it. God is with me and I am safe, inspired, and loved. Blessed to be a blessing. Amen.
